Hello Folks, My 86' softail EVO died completely and I coasted to the side of the road. Noticed the breaker was cycling every few seconds, so I disconnected the battery which sparked heavily making me conclude I had a major short somewhere. Any idea on what it might be or how to trace it?
Thanks for the reply!
The kill switch didn't have any affect on the breaker cycling. My first assumption when it died was that I hit the kill switch by mistake so I tried it. Now, The arcing is so heavy when I hook up the batterey that it melts the terminal, so I figured it has a dead short. I'm trying to get some ideas to work on it this weekend and was hoping somebody had a similar experience so I can avoid a front to back teardown. About a block or so before it died I hit a big pothole that bottomed out the front suspension, so I figured I jarred something that pinched a wire. The only other thing I can think of is I replaced the rectifier a few weeks ago also.
Thanks, Mike
The main breaker was cycling with no power or lights on the bike at all.... My first stop this weekend is the headlight enclosure then the switch and under the tanks. Thanks for the advice...
