So to catch everyone up here... A while back I had an issue with my bike (2008 Street Glide) were it would go it to throttle protect mode for just about no reason, reset the ignition and it would be fine from anywere of a week of riding to not even making it out of the driveway. I figured I must have a pinched or broken wire somewhere on the bike. I tore apart the hand controls and the battery box, dashboard etc but never found anything but once I put it back together it was fine. It hasnt acted up one time for over a thousand miles.
I washed the bike yesterday and always blow dry it with a leaf blower and then towel afterwards, Go to start the bike and it idled terribly. I had no throttle what so ever (as in when I twisted the grib the bike reved maybe 500rpms). I reset the ignition the 20 on 20 off method and it was fine. Road the bike maybe ten miles and shut it off. Upon going to restart the bike after about two hours it wouldnt start and was backfiring through the intake and was smoking through the exhaust. once again I reset the ignition and it was fine again until I shut it off. I started messing with it and found that I could get it to act up and trip the Engine light if I reved the bike up with more than 75% throttle.
I hooked the bike up to my computer today and went into the tts programming and pulled trouble codes on it. The bike has a p1511 "Throttle Actuator Control - Power Managment" and a p2135 "Throttle postion A/D Correlation error code.
Anyone have Ideas as to were to look, mind you it started doing this after I washed it, I do use a long scrub brush but am usually careful around the throttle body because I have broken a wire with it before. The bike has a TTS Mastertune flashed ECM on it and aftermarket Harley Grips. Any help or suggestions would be great, Thanks Guys.
sounds like too rich condition.
Not sure if it applies. I recall reading that someone had the screws holding the butterfly come loose which caused it to stick.
check this, with the AC off so you can see the butterfly, ignition and run on, without starting engine twist the grip should move the butterfly respectively to eliminate this as a possibility. just guessing.
Do you use your right or left hand to shut the bike off.
Reason behind this is if you hold your hand on the throttle you my be holding the throttle open when you shut it off. This will reset the throttle zero to what ever the throttle percent you have it opened at. This can cause a high idle or no throttle response
