just bought the bike before a 2500 mile trip, well when I bought it it had a stage 2 SE air intake, a big bore kit, and se203 cams. 2 times it coughed through the intake, only after a light ride, and if I whicked the throttle to lower a gear, a few times when it starts also. Well on the trip, it did it a bunch of times, nothing that scared me, Im a mechanic and know they will do this a few times, but it accually felt like it lost either crank signal or something cause it coughed about 3 times and accually died on me. fired back up, but makes me nervous now.
I know they just did a stage 2 map to it, and never dynoed it. I was thinking of buying a power comander for it, and change cams to a better low end cam. This bike has a Screaming eagle six speed, and if I ride it in 6th gear under 3000 RPM, it gets shitty mileage. sometimes I was running 4th gear to keep it in its happy place which seemed to be 3000 rpm. I got as good as 49mpg on 2 different tanks of fuel.
Any thoughts as the why it seems to cough? Am i on the right page by tuneing it with a power commander?
Or does anyone offer a new style chain set up that I can convert from the old chain to the new style roller chain? then i would use the 31H or 37H cams from andrews.
I have the exact same setup on my 02, but without the 6 speed transmission. I run a power commander with a custom Dyno tune map. It runs like a raped ape. I am not sure what you want out of it from the cam swap? The 203 is a mild cam but will also ensure engine longevity and give you a nice low end boost from stock. If you do go in the cam chest add the Harley upgraded oil pump and cam plate with hydraulic tensioners if it does not have it already. What exhaust are you running?
