Default 50 amp 3 phase conversion

50 amp 3 phase conversion

Has any one done this with the stock later model Harley parts? I am aware of the Cycle Electric set-up I just don't like the way the regulator mounts on that one...

This will be on a 2001 FLHTC .. extra lights, fogs and brighter spots, big starter ( 1.6 K ) heated grips, amp for the radio, sometimes heated clothes... anyway I use a lot of juice.

been having some electrical issues lately, I found the stator wires had rubbed through in two places. fixed that and the stator seem to test ok, no shorts at least. I don't have an AC tester though to check output.

Got the battery on charge now and will see how it acts tommorrow. When I started it up it only went to 13.6 V not 14.7 like I expected but the battery was pretty far down.

I know I would have to replace the whole shebang, stator rotor and regulator but from Chicago HD the price is inline with the Cycle Electric kit.

what I really want to know is will this setup bolt up? and any thing I should look out for..

You won't get full voltage from the system until you rev to at least 2000RPM.

Yeah... I had the multi-meter on it and I was twisting it up to 3000-3500 in the garage when I was getting those low readings...

okay, I guess 13.6 is a good reading......
Turns out my Big Boar 1000 battery wouldn't hold up under an improvised load test. so I'm trying another battery.

I have the Compu Fire 3 phase system on my '00 FLTRSEI and am a huge fan. First off, longevity: Replaced stockers at 19,000, 32,000 and at 52,000 went with the 3 phase. 40,000 miles later, (and about 2 years,) it never fails to hold a steady 13.0 - 13.5 volts at 2000 and up, no matter that I'm running the Tour Pak, or the heated gear, ( 12 month rider.)

The system is skinnier, and they send spacers to assist in that you won't be using the stock pieces. The rotor is also vented. There's a 45 amp fuse in the line going to the battery.

Very pleased, paid about $400 through Drag Specialties.
