lights affecting ignition
I have an 89 FLHTC. When I turn on the lights or the turn signals the ignition starts to miss almost like an intermittent grounding of one of the plug wires. With the lights of the bike runs like a champ. I have done the following. Load tested the battery, Cleaned battery connections and ground at frame, checked and repaired all lights and sockets to verify clean contacts and connections, changed out all of the circuit breakers, did the grounding and output tests on the stator, and fixed several wiring connections from the headlamp and the rest of the bike. I am thinking about trying the voltage regulator next but would like some input before I start throwing $100 parts at it. Without the lights on the bike charges at 14 but when the lights are turned on it drops to 11. To make it more frustrating the problem can be intermittent. Any help is greatly appreciated.

At over 2000 RPM, you should have 14+ volts from the regulator redardles of the equipment on. I would think the regulator has lost it's capacity to provide enough current to operate correctly. It can put out the right voltage to the point that the current draw is max'ed out, and voltage drops in an effort to increase current - but it won't work right.
