Default 97 Ultra Electrical Issues

I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I have a 1997 Ultra that when you ride for a few miles it dies. It is just like you turned the ignition switch off, no lights or ignition. You let it set a couple of minutes and it will fire right back up. It will make it about 6 miles and do it again. I checked the battery connections and the fuses box and all was fine there. I think i have a relay or a module getting hot causing it to die and when it cools down it is fine for a few minutes. Any help where to start looking here?

Is it fuel injected or carbureted? On a car I'd say that sounds like a crank sensor.

I would start by having a real close look at the main frame ground, if that is not corroded or loose then have a look at the positive going to the main circuit breaker and if that all checks out then follow the positive to the ignition switch, odds are your problem lies in one of those components.

I had similar issues with a 1994; it would do the same.. The reason for mine was that the dealer didn't re-mount the rear wire loom into it's holders along the back fender, and the belt wore through the wires and would cause a short.

I would think that you are possibly right about something getting hot and such; however I'd be real interested if the main breaker isn't tripping.. I'd check that as well as the other items that members have mentioned.
