Ignition/Tuner/ECM/Fuel InjectionNeed advice on ignition issues? Questions about a tuner? Have questions about a EFI calibration or Fuel Injection? Tips on Engine Diagnostics, how to get codes, and what they mean. Find your answers here.
I have read the forums and understand the differences and pros and cons with PCIII and the SERT.
My question is this...
My bike has aftermarket pipes, SE A/C Kit, 25 degree injectors, and stage 1 download.
Bike runs great, plugs look good, no driveability issues, only minor pops on decel about 30% of the time when RPMs are high.
Dealer has told me pops are probably from excess fuel being released and igniting in the exhaust pipe, and I should not be concerned about engine damage.
I would like to avoid putting money into a SERT or PCIII if I can. From what I've described, should I be worried about engine damage and go ahead and get a fuel management system, or just ride it. Pops don't bother me, just don't want to have damage later on.
Welcome. If it were me, I would go with a PCIII for $270 and get a dyno tune. That'll take care of any pops and give you a smooth fast ride, not to mention peace of mind.
Dealer may be correct but most of the time it's a lean pop.
I like PC111s but certainly nothing wrong with a SERT.
You can get a PC111 from Fuelmoto for under $300 shipped with a map.
It probably won't be perfect but will be close. If you decide to do the PC
be sure to tell them you have the Stage 1 download.
If your bike is running good now and you can live with the pop I doubt you'll hurt anything by leaving it as-is but a PCIII/SERT will make it run better.
I've about the same detup and was told by two dealers that all is fine, not to waste my money on a dyno tune, just have it checked that map is correct (with either Scanilyzer or DigiTech)
I'd be very much inclined to leave it alone. What do your plugs look like? Specifically the "burn-back", meaning at what point does the color of the electrode go from light to dark? Also, what color is the insulator?
Things fail and some of it has to do w/owners own doing.the PC has been known to retain water either in box or wiring harness.Sealing will cure and isolating the box from vibration will help.
