99 night train speedo problems

99 night train speedo problems
not sure if this is the right section to post this but someone told me the speedo is electrical on my softail. well anyways the speedo doesnt work, i just got the softail in a trade for a boat, it seems to run fine, but no speedometer, can anyone tell me where to start on this problem?

You might have a bad cable or just a dirty sensor.Follow your cable back to the transmission and disconnect. Clean all of the crud off of the sensor and reinstall. If speedo still does not work, I'd say it's a bad cable.

this could really be any number of things including the voltage regulator. I would check to make sure all fuses are good before anything else then I would take 95custmz advice and start with the speed sensor in the top of the tranny working back to the cable if that doesn't resolve your issue. Not sure I would bother cleaning it though on a 99 model and simply replace it.
