I have a 95 inch 2002 roadglide, carburated. It has a crane ignition and has run great for 10 years. I have 68,000 miles on the bike.
Problem!! Last week it just ran out of power. Runs great to 3000 rpm then falls on its face. Will not rev over 4500 under power.
I replaced the crank sensor with no luck.
Has the crane ignition gone bad? the bike starts fine
Suggestions anyone???
I've had two Crane coils go bad. Your problem sounds more like the module, though. If you have a stock set-up laying around, switch it out and see what happens.
Some people swear by that ignition.....I never noticed any real improvement with it. Personally, I wouldn't give you a used spark plug for it.
Put a SE dual-fire back in mine....no more problems for years now.
I am using the stock coils and sadly I got rid of the stock ignition along time ago.
Bike ran fine one day and bad the next. looks like a new ignition maybe in order unless anyone else has some input
Mine would go bad just from shutting it off to get gas. When I started it again, you could tell both cylinders weren't hitting full on. When I talked to Crane about it, they were insistent that all components had to be Crane to be compatible (even the plug wires). I got tired of being 300 miles away at some gas station with a one cylinder bagger. I did test everything and the primary side of the coil was failing (twice). Junk. Back to (sorta) stock.
Note: Just so you're aware....the SE ignition I replaced it with has no rev limiter built into it. Keep that in mind if you go that way, and lay on it hard sometime.
