I have an 07 Dyna Super Glide. A couple weeks ago after a ride, went to start up my bike. I turned on the key and run switch, all my lights and gauges came on, then I hit the starter, it clicked once and everything shut off. Nothing would turn back on for about ten minutes, but even after they did come back on, I got tthe same result. Finally I had some friends push start me, and it started up. The whole ride home my lights and gauges would dim and flicker. When I got home, I turned off the bike, then decided to see if it would turn back on, and it started right up. I havent ridden since as I dont want to end up stranded or cause further damage. Any idea what could cause this?
The first things to check are the connections at the battery and all cables leading to it. A loose connection anywhere along the sytem can create havoc with any electronically controlled engine, esp fuel injected ones. Make certain the ground/ positive cables to battery cannot touch any part of the bike causing a short to ground.
I have to check the cables on 01 Dyna 2-3 times/yr for proper tightness, they seem to work loose - vibration is the likely reason.
Test the battery for load capability, then have the regulator/stator tested. Failed regs have been a plague to HD for years, somewhere around 07 they became a real nuisance.
If the battery is not being charged, ignition will not fire if voltage drops below certain levels. that may explain why you can still bump start, voltage is better without starter load.
Since the main circuit breaker has popped off a couple of times, it may be wise to replace it after you find the problems causing the bike not to start. FWIW Fastrider124
