We just installed the Thunder Max with autotune on my 07 FLHX; the only thing that took a little effort was tweaking the bung on the rear Vance & Hines header to get the clearance needed for the longer sensor. With trying to reprogram the stock ECU my bike surged, popped and was irritating to ride. With the Thunder Max my bike runs and idles perfect THIS WAS THE BEST INVESTMENT I MADE!

Vance & Hines headers
Bassani 4" Slant Cut mufflers
Speed Performance Air Cleaner

After much research, I decided to put a ThunderMax ECM on my bike. I've got an '03 Fatboy stage 1 download, Vance and Hines Big Radius pipes, and a Doherty Powerpacc. It ran ok for the 3 years I ran it with just the stage 1 download, but it pops on decel and ran 260 oil temps on hot days. I initially went with the V&H Fuelpak, which sucked. It stumbled bad rolling on in 3rd gear. After getting fed up with it I took it off and looked for an alternative. I went with the ThunderMax with the intention of going to a 95 build and the AutoTune at some point in the future.

I initially had problems where I couldn't get my laptop to link up with the ECM. Here's where the ThunderMax support comes in handy. They're great! We eventually decided it had to be a bad serial cable and they sent me out a new one. A week later I had the new cable and the linking problems were gone. Today I did the initial install of letting it idle to 289 degrees head temp while it auto adjusted the IAC stops. I then took it out for a spin. WOW! So this is what my bike is supposed to run like. I was only able to do a 20 mile ride, but I had zero popping and it accelerates much quicker. Starting out I thought the speedo calibration was wrong because I was doing 70 in 4th gear but the RPMs sounded too low. In fact, I was already in 5th gear and didn't know it because I had flipped through the gears so quickly! I can't believe what a difference it is. I won't know for sure about oil temps and performance until we're in the 100 degree days of summer, but so far I am thoroughly impressed and would definitely recommend the ThunderMax. With the exception of my cable problem, it truly is plug and play.
A direct quote from Franks: "My oil temps were 260 before the tmax, 245 after. That's in our 110 degree summers. That's pretty definitive to me."

Smells a little Fishy to me.

You really don't do your research very well do you? Did you happen to notice that the post you quoted was posted on 1/18/2007? Yes, that's January of LAST year. In this hemisphere, January is winter which leads to spring which then goes into summer. As you've quoted in red, I hadn't run it in summer yet. Now that summer has come and gone, being that it's now a year later, I definitely did see a 15 degree drop in oil temperature. Anything else you'd like to contribute?

Franks: Follow the link provided. Only a blind Man can't see the date:

RE: Terminal Velocity vs. Thundermax Closed loop - 1/3/2008 4:41:14 PM

You just posted that remark only a couple a days ago. It says 2008, like the rest of the thread. You must have been pretty desperate to make up a story that you already had the Tmax unit on your bike and even fabricated make believe temperature numbers. But if we are to believe the prior post, then you have been running the Tmax since the summer and this thread is made up. Which is it?

You've got to be kidding me. Let me be more specific. See that big quote in the big white box in your post? The one where you highlighted in red that I said "I won't know for sure about oil temps and performance until we're in the 100 degree days of summer". Do you see it? That quote came from this thread.Get it? Not the link you provided, but this thread. Now go to that postat the beginning of this thread and look at the date. Here'sa link for you since you only seem capable of following links: https://www.hdforums.com/fb.asp?m=1177399. See the date on that post? 1/18/2007. Notice the 7 on the end of the 200there? Now let's look at the link you provided where I said"My oil temps were 260 before the tmax, 245 after. That's in our 110 degree summers. That's pretty definitive to me." The date on that post was 1/3/2008. Notice the 8 on the end of the 200? That's almost a year later. From January 2007 to January 2008 I'm pretty sure there was a summer in there somewhere. Can you grasp the concept that in January 2007 I posted about installing the tmax but wouldn't know the oil temp difference until the summer, then in January 2008 I posted about having run it through a summer and saw a 15 degree drop in oil temps? Anything else you'd like to contribute?

Shoot, I just noticed these are your only two posts... you're a troll. I shouldn't even bother responding as anyone with a working brain can figure out one post is a year earlier than the other.

Not to stick my nose where it does not belong, But I can vouch for tobefrank. I have followed his Highly informative posts on the t-max foralmost a year, not only on this forum but another one as well. Between the input of his and a few others, I went with the t-max, and I have no regrets!

Hmm, well I am in the market for pipes, AC and tuner and have so far ruled out the Fuelpak, and now the PC3. I know the Tmax is more up front money, but it will be worth it to know the bike will run the way I want it to (and how it should) from the get go. Thanks for the very informative posts here. Now all I have to do is convince the wife........

Franks:

I'm looking at the Tmax software right now to see just how easy this would be. I have to tell you, to me it looks complicated. I just got finished searching the maps for a close base map to what I have, and I don't see anything relatively close.

My current set up is Stock head pipes, Rush mufflers (2 inch baffles) and a K&N 3909 air kit.

I don't see Rush mufflers listed, nor do I seesome of the other popular mufflers listed. Just Screaming Eagle mufflers, V&H, bassaniand another reference KW or KWHP, or KWHP100.

The screaming eagle mufflers aren't even listed for a 96 07 engine. Same for the Bassani's, not listed for a 96 motor.

Truth is there is only 23 maps for the 96 ci motor.

I'm running the latest version of smartlink.

If I had to figure this out on mine own I would be lost. What map # would be the best basemap for my Bike.

Thanks
