I have a 2008 FLHTCU with ABS (1st year offered) and almost 38K. About 1500 miles after a brake caliper rebuild, the ABS warning light came on -- but the sensors and wheel bearings were not disturbed. The ABS warning light came on after the optional Navigation Interface Module (for the Road Tech Zumo) was installed per the package instructions. So I opened the fairing again and checked all connectors and cables for accidental stress or chafing -- and found no problems. However, the ABS warning light was now OFF for a couple of dozen miles, then it came back on and has been steadily on ever since. (The ABS warning light is unaffected by whether the Garmin is in its cradle.)
So it seems like the ABS warning light may be related to something disturbed in the fairing but I can't find a physical problem. Or could it be the NIM bluetooth module is causing an EMF issue?
Any actual experience or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.
FYI, the brakes are fully functional without the ABS system, but IMHO continueing to ride without them is unacceptable. They have saved me, my lovely lady and my bike from distracted cagers more than once! If anyone wants to debate the merits of ABS, let's please do it on a different thread.
