I have a 2000 Ultra Classic and have had few problems with it, last April coming back from Texas my stator failed on me, luckily I found an independent bike shop to repair it and get me on the road, it was fine for about 3 months and same problem again, so I bought a compu-fire 3 phase charging system (stator, regulator and rotor) from J&P and again it was fine for just over a year now the stator evidently has failed again. Is there something that could be causing the stator to keep failing or just an unlucky coincidence? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Mike

Mike, doesn't sound right to me! In the DIY Electrical section there are some stickys giving tips on testing the charging circuit, which may help identify your problem. Another stocky there strongly recommends getting the factory diagnostics manual. Best of luck!
Carefully check the wiring for a spot that is shorting to ground. Unless your just having extremely bad luck with replacement parts or are seriously overtaxing the charging system a short is really the only other thing that will cause that to happen.
a bad battery can smoke the stator/reg....have it charged and then have it tested. might check all the wires from the stator, regulator, battery, especially under the frame...may have a wire into...had to replace mine 2 years ago. found that whoever replaced it before just spliced the wires and didn't take the time to correctly remove the connectors and reinstall....it grounded the stator out and fryed it...went back with a Cycle Electric stator an have been trouble free since then..kept the same reg.. it test OK>..
I agree Zuteduff. A bad battery would be internally shorted out causing the stator to work overtime. That will kill either the stator or regulator or both in short time.
