86 FXR Hard Start
86 FXR
Hard starting. Eventually fires up (sometimes with a back fire) and then runs just fine. Will start up right away when hot, but give it ten minutes and same hard start problem.
Have checked ecm ground...OK.
Pick-up sensor appears solid (not melted or distorted) and wiring OK.
Primary and secondary resistance of coil right on spec.
Could the coil have an intermittent failure when cold and then with the vibration of the bike and heat it settles down? some have said I have a fuel problem.....my gut tells me it is still electrical.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks for the tip. Have to admit that I keep discounting the battery as a possibility because in my mind it's new. Yea.....3years new!

Well I remain at a loss.
Eliminated surface charge with headlight for 3 minutes.
Voltage start at 12.62V, load of 140 amps for 15 seconds, ending voltage 10.6V, Recovery to 12.24 after 5 minutes. Battery certainly appears OK. Any other thoughts??? Thanks.

Check voltage at the coil while cranking, or just run a jumper wire from the (+) battery post to the coil (+) (white wire), to eliminate a possible voltage drop to the coil during cranking.
