I just purchased this bike (my first harley 01 electra glide police efi) and my first time dealing with efi. I notice there is some play in the throttle. When the bike warms the rpms drop and it just barely idles and will sometimes die. I am putting on rinehart true duals and either screaming eagle air or arlen ness filter kit havnt got the air fiter yet. I guess my question is when i get the ecmreporgamed can they set the idle? Or should I go with the power commander or something that is better (any ideas would be cool) Can you set idle or is it the play in the throttle cables? I ordered the hanes shop manual and the police supplement page so that may tell me too. Thanks in advance
You can set the idle on MM fuel injected bikes, which is what your's is. It is easy to do. Just get the bike up to operating temp. Take off the air cleaner cover and air cleaner. At about 4 o'clock you will see a hole on the air cleaner backing plate. Stick a number 10 Torx driver in there and turn the set screw clockwise to speed up the idle and counter to slow it down. When you get the idle set, remove the right side cover and pull the ECM fuse for 15 minutes. Put it all back together and you are done.
Ok the bike does start up fine and does idle for good until it warms up(like when the high idle warmup on a car cuts out) then it putters around and sometimes dies.
Yep That did the trick!!!!! Idles nice now! I also am glad I took it apart as both of the breather tube bolts where backed all the way out! I left everything off and going to wait for the s/e stage 1 to be purchased. Thanks for the tech tip!
I'm having the same problem with a slow idle around 500 rpm's and sometimes it just dies.
I tryed the above mentioned and the idle did not change when i turned the screw left and right nothing happened.
Any other suggestions?
