Default Power Commander - General Help Question

I have an 04 Heritage w/fuel injection. This is my 1st FI bike and im getting 2 different schools of info but no one knows the reason for their answer.

I have only 4k miles on the bike ( I bought it in October 13 ), she has V&H long shots and a K&N filter.

I'm being told that
A) I MUST have a black box (Power commander)
B) It would help to have a Power commander
C) Its no biggie either way

Whats the right answer? No one whos telling me things can back up their info.

Thanks

For pipes and air filter (Stage-1) it is generally recommended to go with a tuning device since the already factory lean ecm programming will get even leaner...generally causing poor running and excess heat. The benefits are a smoother running engine and an increase in horsepower.

If you only choose to replace the mufflers/pipes you can usually get away without re-programming, as the stock air filter limits the airflow thru the engine. Engine noise will change, but performance remains basically stock.

It always helps to use a tuner, as the factory maps are lean to meet EPA requirements...so even a stock bike will usually benefit.

For your Stage-1 configuration, I would recommend a tuner (Power Commander or similar device).

I assume when you say K&N filter, you mean a K&N free flowing A/C kit. If you just changed the filter media and left the stock air box in place, you can probably get by without re-programming...but as I said the bike will run better if you add a tuner.

Default I have one for sale

If you decide to go with a Power Commander, I have a PC III USB for sale. Unit was bought new about a year ago, and is like brand new. Asking $70 shipped. I have loaded maps myself from their website and have had it tuned by shops - either way, the unit works perfect.

I had this on my 2001 Fatboy, but it will work on your bike. Model number is 805-510/511.
