Power Commander - General Help Question
I have only 4k miles on the bike ( I bought it in October 13 ), she has V&H long shots and a K&N filter.
I'm being told that
A) I MUST have a black box (Power commander)
B) It would help to have a Power commander
C) Its no biggie either way
Whats the right answer? No one whos telling me things can back up their info.
Thanks

If you only choose to replace the mufflers/pipes you can usually get away without re-programming, as the stock air filter limits the airflow thru the engine. Engine noise will change, but performance remains basically stock.
It always helps to use a tuner, as the factory maps are lean to meet EPA requirements...so even a stock bike will usually benefit.
For your Stage-1 configuration, I would recommend a tuner (Power Commander or similar device).
I assume when you say K&N filter, you mean a K&N free flowing A/C kit. If you just changed the filter media and left the stock air box in place, you can probably get by without re-programming...but as I said the bike will run better if you add a tuner.
I had this on my 2001 Fatboy, but it will work on your bike. Model number is 805-510/511.
