Default speed sensor

My speedo was not working all the time just bowncing around but mostly not working. Also turn signal cancellation ect. After cleaning ect. It still would not work so I bought a new one and it worked right away but after a couple of days back to sporatic working again. The wierd thing I noticed that if I lean into a right hand corner it starts working again until I straighten the bike up. So it seems I have a loose wire or short. Ive had the fairing off and cleaned the wires going to the speedo but they looked good. My question is where does the wire go from the speed sensor plug in located in the battery box. also the new speed sensor came with a longer wire than I needed but I installed it anyway. Should I have cut it shorter? Also this is a 2001 police bike with plenty of chopped off wires. Im wondering if I have a voltage problem? Thanks for any info.

sound like you have a ground wire issue. I suggest getting the service manual for your year/model. There are many wiring diagrams in it that will help you trace wires to where they should go. I had a similar issue a couple years ago. 2 or 3 hours of trying this and that. bought the manual and had it isolated to a bad ground wire within 30 minutes.

The wire from the sensor lead to the TSSM. The input from the sensor gives you speed as well as distance impulses to the turn signal canceling. follow the sensor leads and make sure you have good connection and no pinching anywhere. It could be the TSSM is acting up.
