Hello everyone I have a prob. Rode today and about 15mins into the ride bike went dead. oil was a little low but pops went and got some from home. Before that took about 10-15mins for the bike to start again. It is a 76. No clue I am a very new rider and this is my first bike. It sounds like the alternator in a car it just clicks when I tried to start it.

The 'clicking' sounds like a very low battery. Turn on the headlights. Then try to start it. Does the light dim? If so, low battery. If not, possibly a bad starter solenoid.
Difficult to diagnose the problem with so little information. If the generator or voltage regulator was bad, that could account for a low battery condition.
You have to provide us with a bit more info I think.....pg

If the battery charge and starter turn out to be OK, check the condition and tightness of both the battery cables at both ends. I had to replace the + cable on my '76 becase the wire corroded back inside the insulation where you can't see it.
