Default Daniel Boone Forward Controls

Anybody familiar with these controls? I found a set on Ebay and the pegs match my handlebar controls. I'm looking for a set for my 81 Sportster as I'm running out of shoes and boots to burn. Any brand recommendations wouldbe great also.
Thanks.

The D.B. forward controls are probably the best you can get for an '81. I tried a couple of other brands before I found the D.B. set I put on my '81. They are solidly built, and they fit the frame great.

thanks pitbull for the info! But whats funny is thats the kind of forward controls i have now and i dont really like the way the shift lever is set up like its backwards. seems like its hard to shift into first because theres not enough room to push the lever all the way down. anyone else have same problem and maybe any solutions? Thanks

shorten your rod just a little with the barrel. That will bring the peg back...Bring it back maybe 1/4 inch..that should give you plenty room to downshift. You may have to bring it back a little more though..Yes it seems awkward but couldn't find anything else for a 75.When I put mine on I had a few probs..I couldn't get the lever to hold on the throughput shaft and had to cut the original shifter off and drill a hole in it and turn it pointed up to attach the linkage rod to.Also if the rod is too long when you go to shift the entire linkage will hyper extend and flip backwards...Mine works perfect now..although I almost have to heel shift..also you need to check and see if you have any slop in the copper bushings in that shifter through put shaft..slop in those bushings will create play in the levers and make for too muchmovement needed to change the gears..I had to change the bushings in mine..I went to home depot and got some 3/4 id copper water pipe (it may have been 5/8 I forget)and made some bushings that were longer than the ones from harley..I cut them about an inch and a half long and used the shift lever to drive them in with a 2 lb hammer. The ends of the bushing will muchroom and you will have to tear it off with some vise grips after you drive it in as far as it will go.Just split the muchroom with a sharp screwdriver to get ahold of it.Put a block of wood against your shift lever to hit on.hope this helps..Ride hard..You can rest when you die..

..Yes forward controls are diff. on a 75..that is the only year that had left side shift where the trans output was on the right and had to be run around to the left with the link and the throughput shaft..that my friend is why no one has a forward control for a 75..we got ourself a bastard one of a kind old son.

Default Spit.pic of fabed lever and rod....RE: Daniel Boone Forward Controls

This barrel is where you adjust the length of your linkage. You should have one on each end of the rod..This is how I cut and drilled and turned up the shift lever and used it cause I couldn't get the lever that came with the controls to not slip on the shaft as it was smooth and not splined like the shaft is....At the bottomwhere the lever is bolted around the shaft...That shaft has bushings on each end that wear and create slop and play. That play is bad and will make a 75 real hard to shift by requiring too much movement to transfer all the way around the bike to the right side where the actual transmission output shaft is.Hope this helps..Let me know
