Default fixin' things

After replacing the generator and still having a charging problem, I replaced the regulator and nowshe's charging like a champ so now I want to take care of an oil leak. What I found is that I have a lot of oil coming out of the hole that the wire from the coil to the points enters into the case.

Is there suposed to be some type of gromet or plug to keep this from happening. Can I shoot some silicone or liquid electric tape to fill it in.

Thanks,
Rich

First off Rich......What year model do you have?
If the bike is a 1971 or later, here is what your problem is regarding the oil leak where the wire exits the case:
The circuit breaker compartment has an oil seal at the back end that resides in the cover. This seal fits around the rear cylinder intake camshaft. The wire to/from the coil simply has a hole that it passes through. No grommet, no seal. The reason is because the ignition area is supposed to be oil free. The fact that oil drips from your wire indicates the seal has worn out and needs a new one installed.
Open your CB up and expect to find oil in there. Remove the points, condenser and backing plate. Remove the centrifugal advance unit and the seal is behind that........Again, I am assuming yours is a 1971 or later.............pg

That's it. Found the seal and it's split. And yea, it's a '77. I keep forgeting to put that in my profile.

Thanks,
Rich

By nose cone, are you referring to the timing cover? You can change the seal without removing the timing cover. You do, however, have to remove the points, condenser, backing plate and centrifugal advance unit entirely to get at the seal,,,,,pg
