Default Setting timing with electronic ignition

Forgive me for being dumb as I am new to this ( yes I do have a factory service manual ). I am trying to figure out how to set the timing on my 74 Ironhead. Previous owner installed a Dyna electronic ignition and said he doesn't think it's times right. Service manual describes for a points ignition obviously and I would assume there are differences. Can anyone provide me with a walk through or at least a link to follow for this. Thanks

There are several different models of Dyna electronic ignition - posting a pic of the unit or the exact model # would be helpful

I am not familiar with that model [or most others, have used two different ones over the years], but here are links to the installation, timing and more. These appear to cover more than one model of Dyna S so read everything carefully. Perhaps another member who is familiar with Dyna ignitions will be along to assist

NICE, Dyna S (single fire unit.) Follow the FSM on the timing procedure starting with Timing Mark in the window. Hook up a meter (12vdc) or a light to the ignition coil. Turn it left & right till ya get 12vdc or the light goes on. Snug it down a LITTLE to keep it from moving. Now rotate the black rotor to full advance, loosen up the stand-offs and rotate the plate till the 12vdc or light comes on. Tighten the standoffs. DONE. Ya could put a Timing Light to it, but a really small adjustment ain't gonna do squat. Dyna S uses the advance unit of the points set-up so your timing will be RIGHT ON! Almost forgot, ya gotta have the ignition ON to do this. WARNING - ignition on too long WILL FRY THE COIL. Run/stop switch is helpful.

I just re-read my Reply to you. Guess my brain was faster then my typing, or maybe a Senior Moment. The Dyna S ignition on your bike ( and my 77 XLH) is DUAL FIRE, like OEM. Not Single Fire. The Dyna S Single Fire unit has a left AND right black sensor on it.
