Unleaded gas

How hard is unleaded gas on a 1979 Sportster's valve seat/guides? It's original with a little over 7000 miles on it now. Change them out or wait and see? Thanks for any insight.

The lead was for lubricating the valve stems and valve guides. Without that lead additive, it leads to more wear and burning oil. It's not a quick fix. It involves new valves, valve guides, hardened valve seats and an experienced machinist.

Pure gas is a smartphone app that lists stations wherever you are that sell non ethanol gas. It helps.

One of two things we use in all the antique bikes we service

2 stroke oil couple oz in the tank every fill up and some have a stable in the mix < does you weed wicker foul a spark plug That’s a NO

marvel mystery oil is even a bigger go to as it eliminates and extra carbon same thing couple oz every tank full but no stable

doing this 2 weeks now been using marvel since i started riding in the 60s we get 3 times the engine life — the no sayers do - just so you know

I think you’ll have a hard time finding leaded gas. Just remember ethanol free gas is not the same leaded gas.
