Another issue -- Clutch Slipping?
I've noticed that when I'm in first and get up to about 3,000 RPM the bike slips into neutral. This happens about 80% of the time. Is this normal?

Not normal, and not a slipping clutch either.
What seems to be happening is the shift dogs are worn and will not keep it in gear.
Excuse me, I said shift dogs and what I meant was the shifting nubs on first gear are possibly worn and cannot keep it in gear. It may be wear on the transmission cam plate rather than on the gear, but again, no way to know without an inspection being done. It has nothing to do with the clutch though. I am sure you used that term to simply describe the trouble........pg

If I shift from first to second before I hit 3,000 RPMs it works fine. But if I wait it usually "pops" into neutral.
BTW, I have a "mini-tach" that I'm not sure is all that accurate.
