What is holding the sprocket on is called friction and just being stuck.
See those two holes in the side of the sprocket? You need to rig up a puller similar to what you did for the clutch spring compressor tool, just on a smaller scale.
One caution: I am almost certain the threaded holes are fine thread (S.A.E.) so be sure to use bolts with a matching thread. Been awhile since I have done it, but I think the holes take a 5/16-24 bolt.
Another way to put the needed pressure on the sprocket is to use a gear puller, provided you can get the claws behind the teeth, and the fact that the chain is still on there will most likely prevent you from getting a good grab on it. That may be a challenge, thus the reason for the 2 holes in the sprocket.
Whatever you decide to use....be carefull not to damage the threads on the end of the crank. That small dimple hole is there to use as a locator for your puller screw to sit in. That was not the original purpose of the dimple but at this stage that is what you would use it for.............pg

OK. Seems like you got the sprocket removed without any trouble.
Now, what kind of slop do you have in the gear bushing when it is slid onto the clutch sprocket spacer? If it is very sloppy, (that is too say the gear can turn sideways somewhat) then you need to replace that bushing and/or the spacer.
Look at the spacer surface. Is it fairly smooth, or does it have deep grooves worn into it? My experience has been that while the bushing does wear, the spacer wears first and that wear allows the gear to jam on the spacer which locks up the kick start lever.
Your kickstart lever now moves OK, correct?
Let me know how it goes.........pg

ok this is what i see. bushing looks great. i put the gear with the spring back on and by hand moved the kick. i hear a clicking, so i looked and watched the gear move. the spring starts to pop out of the insert from back of the primary. i myself dont think this is right. shouldnt it stay in place? could it be that the spring is over stretched? if i have to ill take pics for ya but it wont be till morning. have to go to work. thanks so much

I am not entirely clear on what you are saying regarding the spring popping out of the insert.
Maybe a pic would help me understand what you are talking about.
Meanwhile, what is the condition of the spacer that the (bushing) gear goes onto? This is what is usually worn........pg

spacer looks great!! ok now pic 1 shows the insert im talking about. the blue sharpie pointing in the pic is where it is slipping out. now pic 2 shows the bushing in place with gear and spring. now if you look toward the top right of photo you can see the spring starting to come out. now this is with pressure on the gear and on the down stroke of the kick. i hope the photos help

Hmmm,
It is a liitle difficult to see from the photos, but if the bushing and the spacer both look good, then I suggest you put it back together and then try the kick starter again with the primary cover off. If it kicks over Ok after a few tries then just button it up and ride on..........pg
