Brighter headlight bulb?
Does anyone have a suggestion for a brighter headlight bulb? The one i have is functioning normally but i ride in the country with alot of deer and would feel better with a little more lighting without having high beams on. I thought about adding additional lights but don't like the look.

yep, I feel what ya need, I live in a very county setting in northern kentucky, there are several choices for a much brighter bulb, but I would say go aftermarket, I know this is going to **** off alot of people, but don't go with harley parts on this one, Drag Specs, will have what you need, If you can't find it online let me know, I know the guy who runs the Drag Shop where I live and will try to get you a book or atleast email what your looking for.

If you still have the old sealed beam, get rid of it. Get you a Candlepower replacement headlight. It looks like a sealed beam, but uses a standard H4 bulb, which you can get in different wattages. I run a 120/90 in mine. It is way better thant he old 35 watt or so stock headlight.

A bump to update a 2 yr old thread.
After running across this thread in search on replacing my burnt out sealed beam headlight, I too found an H4 replacement off of ebay. There were a few offered but I snagged a V-Twin Mfg unit new in box for $37.31 shipped.
What I found just really cool about the V-Twin Mfg unit is that it appears to have a second bulb mount in the reflector below the center bulb. It's a small, 2 wire bulb holder in I'd guess a 194 bulb size or something. I'm hoping to wire up this neat feature to serve as a low draw quasi daytime running light for my old generator powered '72 XLH. Guess I could go with an amber bulb and call it a european 'city light'. Guess I'll find out after UPS brings it.
For further reference , its part number #33-0340 on page 1057 of the current (Jan, 2011) V-Twin Manufacturing Multifit/Chopper cataloge.

Good find on the headlite. I found a used OEM HD unit at my indie for $20. Nice to be able to use an H4 rather than the sealed beam. There are some nice options available.
