Any help would be great I have a 1976 ironhead to add oil filter kit. How do you run the lines for the filter to the pump and the oil bag...THANKS

To install oil filter you run line from engine block out to filter in, and from filter out it goes to oil tank return. If you run a cooler, the line out from the engine goes to cooler, then filter, then back to tank. Old tank filter gets removed.

I understand that the oil filter has two ports, an "In" and an "Out" the problem Im having is that i dont know which is which. The oil pump has a "feed" line and a "return" line. Do I take the feed line and connect it to the in port of the filter and then run a line from the out port of the filter to the return port of the oil pump? If i did that, then the feed poprt of the oil pump would have nothing connected to it

The oil filter does NOT go anywhere in the feed line to the pump. You should have a hose from the lowest port of your oil tank directly to the input (feed port) of the oil pump, with nothing else installed between those two points.

The oil filter should be installed between the return port and the oil tank. The instructions that came with the oil filter kit should show you which port is "in" and which is "out" on the filter.

You want a hose from the "return" port of the pump to the "in" of the filter, then another hose from the "out" of the filter back to the return port of the oil tank.

To further clarify, or muddy as the case may be, [because this can be a difficult topic ] without the oil filter there is a line running from the out of the pump to the top of the tank. The oil filter installs in this line.

Pump Out -> Filter -> Tank Top

Thanks Iron Mike, your explanation made sense. The filter is up and running.

Default Which port is in on a oil filter? Does it flow in to the center of the filter? No instructions for remote oil filter. Installing on a 1977 sportster
