Bore and Stroker kits
Does anyone know of any after market big bore or stroker kits for Ironhead engines? Has anyone here stroked one out? I know the stock stroke is 3.8125 inches. How much more can one go without sacrificing reliability? Increasing the bore size would not add as much stress as stroking but I have yet to find a big bore kit for one.

HI. I run a 79 1280 stroker sportster, and have had many others. The whole stroker thing is out of hand. Its not Rocket science. Its putting a longer stroke into your motor, whoopie. Contact the "Dragon man" look him up on your search engine. He builds motors, the best, period, bar nome.
call him, discuss what you want, and send him your motor. He will do it all and not emty your bank account. He's got an add in just about every chopper rag out there.

This isn't meant as an attack on you, or even on the Dragon Man, just wanting to know your experiences.

RE: Bore and Stroker kits
I had an 86" '75 Ironhead via Truett & Osborn lower end and Axtell top end.
Much machining required on the cases and I had 12:1 pistons with high lift cams and Baisley heads with oversized valves so some machining on the psitons was also required.
I wouldn't recomend a build like this for a daily rider though, bad *** yes but tempermental and hard to start.
A lower compression less cam'd up version could be doable for a daily rider.
