PIPE WRAP,ANY ADVANTAGE???(BESIDES APEARANCE) WHAT BRANDS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS(IF ANY)IM RUNNING 1 7/8 DRAG PIPES ON A FRESH 80 1000cc (2,400 MILES AGO)
ive played with it several times over the years and to b honest there are no advantages at all... its more like a disadvantage...
ok drag pipes have hot exaust flowing through them once u insulate them with wrap the pipe can "over heat" and "burn out" or crack. they need to b exposed to open air to get rid of the heat. ive tryed it on headers and saw temps as high as 500 deg in a hot 1/4 mile pass in that motor it also helped to hold in enouff heat to burn every exaust valve.
if youll ask every header, drag pipe, and exaust maker not one will tell u to use any wrap at all for this reason. not only that it will void any exaust warrente. sorry it does look cool but it dosnt work in 99% of the time
ive used it on all my bikes, no issues what so ever and it does look great. i use thermotech avaliable at JEGS, if you use it buy the spray on coating for it, over time from being in the wind the edges of the wrap will start to get just a slight bit tatterd if you dont use it.
