Does anybody feel like opening up a discussion on a partial rebuild of a 1000cc Ironhead? \\; The chain broke and completely shattered the right side of the lower end. \\; I am about to start the process of tearing it apart while I look for parts and would like a few resources aside from the manual if I run into any problems. \\; Not to mention that I am going to need parts and would like some good resources for those too.
I just saw this post you made.
Did the rear chain put a hole in the crankcase/transmission?
If that is the situation, I would tread lightly on doing a rebuild on the engine unless you have another engine as a spare. If you need crankcases then the work and expense involved will be great. Better to sell such an engine for the parts than sink a pile of money into it.
Maybe I misunderstand the damage done to the engine...........pg
I agree with piniongear. \\; The cost of replacement cases would be prohibitive. \\; Unless you have access to another set, part it out and buy another.
I have a 75 xlh right hand shift transmission numbers 34846 54A, I bought a 73 xlh transmission numbers 34845 54A, could someone tell me if the 73 will fit my 75, or am I just wasting my time?
My bike is titled as a 75, and it is an original right side shift, no cross over.
Those numbers are of the access cover of transmission. My kick start spindle thing with that spring, won't fit the other one. I have a kick and electric.
