Default '73 xlh engine removal-any tips?

first&nbsp\\;off, let me thank all of you who reponded to my previous post "oil pressure-do i have it?" anyway i did have the oil lines wrong (the drawing i rec'd. helped!). once i got them right to the remote filter and aftermarket oil tank, the oil pump was bad. so, now i need to replace the pump, which means removing the engine. okay, i've got the motor loose and ready to be pulled. anybody got any tips on this??? i was thinking left side out, *** end (tranny) first... reverse to install. also, anything on the pump install/remove would be appreciated.&nbsp\\;special thanks to pinion for your patience. thanks, luckee.&nbsp\\;

Actually you don't need to pull the motor out of the frame to get the pump off.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Remove the generator and rotate the motor in the frame until the pump clears.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; It's a heavy mother and if you don't have to lift it in and out the better for you and your back.

The engine/tranny weighs exactly the same as a fireplug. I have weighed both.......188 lbs.
I last took mine out the left side of the frame and put it back from the same side, but for the life of me I cannot remember why..........pg

Edit note: I would remove the engine entirely rather than try to tilt the engine to remove the pump. You will have to time the oil pump breather and cams and will be glad you have it on a bench to do this.

I have never done it but it has been sugguested to lay the whole cycle on it's side,&nbsp\\; unbolt the engine then pick up the frame.
