hi all
new to this forum although i've had an '85 ironhead for 4 years. i have acceleration issues at high speeds so i rebuilt the keihn carb. I got everything tight right down to the 15mm float seat(which i took off and checked 3 times). Any suggestions on what the trouble might be? Also looking for cheap rims and tires if anyone has any.
thanks.
How about a little detail on what you mean by "acceleration issues"? Something along the lines of what speed, engine rpm, missing, knocking, bogging down, miles on engine, etc.
Sorry for lack of info.
when i get to about 50mph i have to give it a very small amount of gas to coax it faster. 60mph? forget it. never get there.
At lower speeds( 25-50mph) too much gas and it bogs down and loses power. It only misfires or backfires occasionally when i shut it down.
thanks
How did the bike run before you 'rebuilt the carburator?' If it ran better before, then something is not correct with your rebuild. It does seem like a carb issue from the discription you gave. Did it bog down at lower speeds when you gave it gas before the rebuild? It should take all the gas you can give it without loading up of course.
The bike will not reach 60 mph? Are you sure the throttle is opened fully at the carb end of the cable?
