ok got her running my 76 sporty xlh ended up being my new points i installed the fastening screw was i bit longer than the old one and was rubbing on the advance behind the backing plate not alowing the advance to work any way i have exhaust leaks and intake leaks idles real high and wont adjust in whats the best way to fix the leaks im running an s&s super b carb i think if i get the leaks fixed it will be ok any sugestions
Intake leaks:
1. must have a carb support bracket!!
2a. too late for this but, according to the 79 to 85 manual, when the heads are installed they must not be final tightened until after the intake manifold is fully installed and tightened; according to the earlier manuals you use the cylinders rather than the heads
2b. re-install the intake manifold using new or-rings or rubber bands [whichever you model has] and use the T-bolt clamps, also known as aircraft style clamps [pic attached]
Exhaust leaks:
1. use the same T-bolt clamps as for the intake [smaller size]
2. ensure the pipe fully covers the exhaust port flange
3. ensure that pipes/mufflers are supported
Note: the one on the right is wrecked - the round part was too thin and got distorted
thanks mick i think its more exhaust then intake both front and rear leak went and got some copper seal gonna fix it tomorrow will let you know how i fair thanks again mike
