Default 72 sportster $

I WAS LOOKING AT A 72 AT THE DEALERSHIP. SALESMAN SAID IT NEEDS rear tube ,clutch, battery, and they want 3 grand as is. It is missing timing cover and the point. It is kicker no elec. start. This seems high for the condtion I realize it a classic but it is real rough. I was planning on bobbing something and thought this old motor would make it a lot cooler. What is a reasonable price for this bike. the bike has been sitting there for at least 3 years.

I just brought home another '73 XLCH (kicker) , and found a '71 at the local dealership, which incidentally had a display of scented candles RIGHT AT the parts counter, ugh!

The '73 needs the tanks put back on and some cleaning and tweaking. It's $1000. The 71 is in a basket, but all there. It is well under $1000.

I'd have to say, keep looking. If you have your heart set on THAT bike for one reason or another, then grab it. If you want an Ironhead, not necessarily that one, there are better deals to be had.

Let me tell ya though, they are a blast to work on so if your thinking about a project, an old Ironhead is the way to go!(in my opinion. )

hahahahahahahahhahaha. thats funny and sick nwpaironhead. i seriously think my dad was right when he used to say the world was going to heck in a handbasket.

ratchet that seems high to me.way high actually.i dont know how somthing can sit in a shop for 3 years and not run.i would have wanted to worko n it during my lunch break for free.i gotta wonder why they never got it running.keep in mind there is really nothing different in that bike and a pile of parts because you will probably have to take everything apart anyway....at least to some extent.just make sure its all there...or be aware of what is not.
if you are gonna chop one can i ask you not to chop/bob etc a complete bike worthy of restoration.if youre gonna get an aftermarket frame as well you might just wanna go on ebay and find an engine....just sayin...
eventually i would like to make a crazy bobber of some sort too but will use an evo.

RUN, don't walk away from that machine! If a shop is selling it and it will not even start and run, and it is missing parts?
No timing cover? You gotta be kidding!

Well what can I say except unbelievable!
.
And they hope to get $3K for that.
I would not give them $400 for the thing. Less most likely, if I were to look at it myself in person.
One can dream I guess.
Don't be the sucker that buys it.

Way high.Something I have found over the years is that it turns out being cheaper to buy what you want in running condition, then change it to make it yours.Let someone else put in all the labor and parts chasing they will never get that money back.I have seen really good ones that year up and running for that price.
