What's going on with all of these people riding motorcycles with shorts on! it something that bothers me for some reason I have even seen guys riding big dressers with flip flops and shorts!! What the heck don't they know that pavement will take you skin right off !
in my opinion there are two types of riders, those who have went down and those that have not,the flip flop and shorts guy prob. have not, i have went down didnt like it real well! lol so now its leather and at least jeans, unless it too hot, then its just a vest, jeans and allways riding boots
I have noticed this too around here. A lot of couples in shorts, Ts; even what they are wearing is not pure cotton.
The way it was described to me - if there is any plastic [rayon, nylon, etc] in the cloths it melts and blends in with the skin as you slide down the pavement. The emerg room nurses have to peel it all off. They say the screaming is unbearable, especially when you realize that the person doing the screaming is yourself.
I have had two: first one was 60 ft, second was 150. No injuries. Always denim or leather. Long sleeves, long pants, gloves, helmet.
i got lucky with mine, i went down at around 45 mph with the wife on the back when the 100 lb plus dog decided to dive into my front wheel it took the ironhead right out from under us, the wife slid down the road on my back she hardly got a scratch i took all the rash, just glad there wasnt alot of rocks and gravel! i wouldnt have had it any other way! im not sure how i would have handled it if she got hurt
did you try to go around the dog, i mean like go one way or the other??? I learned from a dude that if a dog gets in front of you head straight for it. The logic being the dog will go one way or the other. Worked for me the one time it happened. i headed straight for the dog and he bailed.
Only beneficial issue living here up north is that you can ALWAYS wear leather or "goretex" suit. Here weather hardly never goes over 90F. With streetbike I have been down for 3 times, with dirtbike... I can't count. Noting major..yet.
came out of some small trees right along the road, didnt bark, i had enough time to pucker my a$$ that was it, if a dog thinks he can take you he wont stop! it was a back country one lane paved road no where to really go
In the case where you can see the dog coming at you, the technique is to slow down and aim for the dog. Then at the last moment accelerate away. Obviously would not work in this case where you could not see it coming.
+1 on what mick said.
a friend of mine....rode harleys for years kind of guy..rebuilt one of his friends kids little dirtbike,i think it was a 50cc.he takes it down the road and gets on it a bit coming back.because of his size and the quickness of a 2 stroke he goes flying back off the bike sliding on his back.of course he has a t shirt on and some loose gravel dug innto his skin plus the road rash from the pavement.he goes to sleep that night wearing a tshirt and it "glues" to his skin.he just cut the shirt of and eventually the rest of the shirt peeled off to.---he said it was not a pleasant experience haha.-----i personally only had accidents on dirtbikes.dropped my iron once at very slow speed going through some mud.---stuff happens when you least expect it.
Looks like the gene pool needs thinning to me.
I have a neighbor right next to me I've never had a ride with because he's a short/sandal rider. I just don't want to be around when he converts his legs to ground chuck.
