cam vent

why is my 71 ironhead pushing oil out the tank lid and puking oil out the cam chest vent?

Check your lines for clogs, and make sure your check valve isnt frozen

It has set a while during the build. It seemed low a few times so I added a little but it wasn't leeking and not going in primary so I couldn't figure where the oil was going

This oil flow is referred to as Wet Sumping. Virtually all old Harleys do it. The oil leaks past the check ball in the oil pump. Flows out the crankcase vent on the cam cover when you start it up. Best to put a catch can there if you suspect this has occurred. Big error to top it up. Always check the oil level after the engine has been running for a few minutes.
