Default Push rods question

I'm rebuilding a 74 xlch motor. Unfortunately I do not know the original locations of the push rods prior to dissemblance. My understanding is they have to go back in their original locations for proper reconstruction. Is there anyway to tell by measuring the rods as to their placement?

It is the usual practice to return them to their original locations, but it is also common for them to get mixed up. They are all identical - no way to determine which spot they come from. Not a problem.

Is it possible to get the motor out of the frame without splitting the cases?

dont worry about mixing up the push rods they should go back the same way but dont worry about it , as far as pulling the motor no way do you have to "split the cases" it will come out if you want to remove the heads you may have to remove the heads and rocker boxes together but still they will come out without pulling the motor, why do you want to remove the motor? is the bottom end ok?

Removing engine from frame.. remove bolts leave only motor top mount, put bike primaryside facing floor, remove top mount, lift frame off, engine stays on floor. Rocketboxes removed it's easier.

H-mmm,
I always remove it from the primary side.
You're gonna play hell getting the primary backing plate (part of the crankcase) through the frame. Much easier to remove/install from the left side IMO.
Just my 2¢ of course.

Cool thanks yall! Yes shepdog the bottom end has to be gone through. I decided to pull it and have a professional do the work on the bottom end. I also have to re-bore the cylinders to and recondition the heads. My motor is a mess...
