Default What to do with this rare bird

So I have what Ive been told 0ne of four 1977 XLT's left in its original configuration! I knew this this guy was rare (they made 1099 of em) but I had no idea how rare, I talked to one of my buddes, who helped restore one of the 4 left and Harley Museum purchased it from him for around 15K. I guess what im looking for is a bit more info and help on what I actually have/what a guy shoud do. Do I try to contact Harley, and who would that even be? Do I.....??? I dont know guys, as I have never had anything this rare.

Any info/comments would be helpful!
thanks!

I will be taking more tonight, because I will be adding all the "extras" that came with the thing originally like 2 into 1 and hard bags and such....

I dont know what to do with it, as there doesnt seem to be much trustworthy information on how many are really around and what the potential worth is. (that I can find)

First off check the VIN number on both the right side case and on the frame. Both should be the same, and should start with 2G; then 5 digits starting with 1, then H7.
2G1nnnnH7

We need pics. It must have the original low rise buckhorn handlebar used only in 77 and 78, and a Superglide style or Roadster style 3.6 gallon gas tank. We can provide more info when we see the pics.

Not to rain on your parade, but i would say do not get too excited about the rarity. It is not a 1957 for example, nor is it an XR1000; also not a model that a rich collector would want as it is basically just an XLH with different trim. $-wise it would sell at the high range of any well preserved XLH - but this is just my opinion.

The saddlebags are worth $400 to $600 if they are in excellent condition - but only if you can find a buyer who really wants them and who has that kind of cash on hand. Most IronHead guys fall into neither of these two categories.

Let's see the pics!

the vin and case are the same and its 2G20883H7
I will be taking pic when I get all the stuff back on her (if I use it all), but the pics I have in my album are from when I bought it!
I have the bags and the original 2to1 and even the luggage rack that are not pictured. (plus an extra tank)

I gotta agree with Ironmick........
Don't get too excited about your bike being rare because it is not.
If you had an XLCR it still would not be rare, but that is a desirable model to own and buyers are out there.
A late seventies Sportster will be worth far less than an early sixties machine in my view. Those are the rare machines and getting more so with every machine that is chopped up by an ignorant owner.
And as Mick said...... value and worth are only determined by the prospective buyer, not any market issues.
So find yourself a buyer and then you will find what it is worth.

I have one as well, been repainted and looks pretty good. I just ride it on occassion and enjoy just having it. I keep an eye out for the original saddlebags, exhaust, and windshield which I am missing at swap meets. I don't personally think there is much to be gained as far as value from this over any other model now....but who knows in the future what it may be. Most likely I will own it after I have given riding up in general (which I hope is a long time). Take care.
