Progress report
Ok, after making a debacle of the first paint job. I finally got the tins resanded and repainted. Need a lil touchup (front/rear edges of fenders from sitting before they were cured...ooops), final coat of clear/buffing, and they can go back on. (6 hours of last Thursday night shot in the a$$<g>

Tank is left to do, temps dropped back into the 20s (dammit!) so my shop is at around 45...too cold to spray.
Got my tank yet to do, so when I do that I can do the touchup work.
Rear fender brackets are sprayed and on, waiting on the rear fender to tighten it down so it's not so tight to fit back in.
Now, for today's work. Installed the new risers and clamp...wow, what a difference. Handlebars don't budge at all (yay!).
Pulled the front end apart and tightened the gooseneck to where it needs to be (was almost 2 full turns loose). Also discovered something about the front end...it's not even remotely off a '74, had a mechanic friend take a look at it and he thinks it may be off an 80's Dyna due to the rake and style of bearings/caps.
Got those godawfull "Highway Peg" mounts off of it with a die grinder and installed the new highway pegs. Ran some wiring so when I get the rear fender on I can hook up my lights (always a plus, cops tend to frown when you have no brake lights/turn signals<g>
.Changed out my carb finally, now need a gas tank so I can set it.
Tried to install my new guages...not gonna happen. Can't mount 'em to *anything* so I'm stuck with my old ones. Hopefully Sauk HD will take 'em back. if not, I got a set of kicka$$ guages for sale.
Everything seems (so far) to be (mostly) falling in place. Soon as it gets a lil warmer so I can finish the paint, I'll get it reassembled/rewired and finished. Then come the pics<g>
Wolf, it is sooo beer:thirty.
Just make a mount for the guages. I needed to put a speedo on mine and went with a 48mm from MMB. I had to make a mount because of the location I wanted it to be, just behind handelbar clamp. The cable travels through the neck. All I did was get some 16 guage and cut a small pattern that is mostely hidden by the speedo and is sandwitched between the risors and the bar clamp. It's all chrome in that area ('cept for the top tree) and the mount is flat black so it looks like the speedo just floats above the neck and keeps a low profile look to it. Now I'm working on shortening the speedo cable to take out the slack.
Here's a couple pics.

Wolf, thanks for the insight, it's amazing what we can come up with when we need to.
