But you could milk that Sportster about 100+ miles and fill it back up in about 3 - 5 minutes and go again! 3-5 minutes on the Livewire might get you out the driveway! Also if I remember correctly those Sportsters were about $12K new too.

All true.

But, as I keep trying to stress, you can't compare an electric bike directly to an ICE bike unless you set some pretty clear parameters. You might as well say a Corvette is worthless because you can't carry a load of gravel in it.

i suspect they will struggle to sell a thousand units at $30k ea even with the modest range increase.
Its just a matter of time the E fantasy for Harley will die out and the hard crewl realality check comes banging on their stock options door.

You’re going to hear the crash on the moon.

All Harley did was pump the tyres up to 80 PSI.

Nah simple software change. It's in the city, and I will bet money that range is using some sort of "Economy" mode. They just dialed back the power delivery and increased the regenerative braking for city riding. You'll get more miles, but fewer smiles. Turn the fun factor back up and the range will drop.

Harley has a great future. It will be like Bud getting bought by Inbev, or Dodge by Fiat, just another American icon bought out by foreign interests. Then your Harley will have as much soul as a Vespa...

Well why not put the power control in the hands of the owners, Flick of the switch your in total ECO mode and get ya 140-150 miles per charge.

Flick the switch into Holly Fu%k mode and get 50 miles per charge, and maybe a switch position somewhere in between.

No matter what software “ Enhancements “ HD comes up with. It’s still not worth 30k

Typical of the overall trend in "news" reporting today, every machine with two wheels and an electric motor is suddenly gunning for Harley-Davidson. The article says they have top speeds of 20 & 28 mph! These are electric scooters NOT motorcycles. They definitely ARE NOT competition for LW!!!!!

That said, H-D is entering that market as well. It can be expected to be THE hot 2-wheeled EV market.

Imagine any major European or Asian city without 2-cycle scooters. Without the noise and smoke. People who never go more than five miles and have all night to recharge before heading off to work the next day. THAT is where 2-wheeled EV's are going to shine. ...But just keep concentrating on the present (some would say past) U.S. market to predict the future. Keep ignoring the lightweight segments of other brands that are still expanding and instead focus on the big, heavy, low milage, EXPENSIVE bikes YOU prefer that are declining in popularity. Keep obsessing over highway range and recharge times. Those people on Juneau street must be nuts for not sharing that focus.

No one is ignoring anything, other than those naive to the pollution caused by EV vehicles. The electricity for EVs doesn’t magically come from thin air. In fact 45% of ALL US ELECTRICITY COMES FROM COAL BURING POWER PLANTS. Or those naive to the millions of birds utterly devasted by tens of thousands of wind mills generating E but at what cost?

All options have trade offs. The market will decide if a $30k ebike with the LW’s specs has a place in the marketplace. My view is that its DOA but HD will drain their bank accounts before facing the harsh reality of the market wants and needs. Touring bikes remain their strength. Lack of innovation and “owning” the Touring space in the future will only accelerate the inevitable.

#1 - The pollution from power generation is not even a factor in this market. Yes. I fully comprehend the insanity of that. Consider though that the majority of the TARGET MARKET, again the overseas market, are not necessarily motivated by the green movement! They are motivated by the economy of the product. Everything today is dependent on electric, from phones & computers to... well, everything that's taken over modern society. All they care about is that the power is on. Once again, look beyond what we're accustomed to!

#2 - Harley-Davidson is not changing ANYTHING regarding the present products!!! Why does everyone seem to fear all the fat slim bob boy glides are going to be scrapped in favor of e-bike production?
