I didn't take mine off just the slip on and saddle bag hammer and long chisel bought at Lowe's and paddle bit about 16in long also at Lowe's.

Looks like blocking off the contorted pipe that leads to the left muffler would be a perfect low cost option for a 2 into 1 set up. Drill out the cat and you are good to go. You only need one can if you want it louder. I'd give it a try with the stock right muffler first as the sound deadening Cat would be removed.

Fuelmoto shows a big gain because they changed 3 things... 1) they changed factory tune (which by itself could yield good changes), air filter, and high flow exhaust design....

These changes are different from just removing the CAT. From all I've read, these CATS don't restrict as much as people think. The biggest benefit of removing them is the heat...

When I had a stage II on my '12 Limited; SE A/C, SE cams, stock head pipe with CAT, and high-flow SE mufflers. I talked with Fuelmoto about getting a tune for it. I had a powervision from them. I also mentioned that in a few more months I would have the money for their head pipe... I was told then, that they would send me a tune, and when I put on their head pipe, just run a couple auto tunes. The tune would be the same, with or without the CAT. He mentioned the CAT doesn't restrict too much...

FWIW...

The new M8 cats are less restriction than the previous cat. HD has increased flow by making it bigger.
They also did a bang up job of relocating the cat and rear headpipe further away from the rider and passenger. So cat heat is no longer an issue.

Bob,
Your statement about heat no longer being an issue is inaccurate. Is it better, somewhat, but it is still clearly an issue. Another benifit of the Fuel Moto 2-1-2 headpipe. I need to get me one.

I live in California and have over 5k on my RG since Sept and can say without reservation the heat from these engines and exhaust is night and day different (cooler) than my TC ever was.
Just my observation,
Bob

I've done this on a Jap bike a while ago. No welding, use concrete drills bits long enough 5/16" drilled a round pattern and pulled out the loose piece with long needle nose. Then with long flat bladed screw driver peel off the cat that's stuck to the wall and use a shop vacuum to remove small particles before starting engine.

Hey Folks,

I decated my factory header yestasrday.

Did it with a 1.3/16(30mm) x 16in (400mm) paddle bit,and a home vacuum cleaner with a long hose to suck the debries from inside the pipes.

Took me about an hour to do it, piece of cake.

I'am still running the stock mufflers and in idle does not make much difference, but when you wrist the throttle the sound goes deeper.

For me it sounds good for now and way better than with the cat, I'm waiting for the VH OS450 to put in and let the apocalypse horns to scream loud

Regards!
