Nope it won't hurt a thing. It is more of a convenience issue and possibly a safety issue. If you stall your bike in traffic, it could be the difference in being able to start the bike quickly and ride away from danger.

I think that that switch also turns on the brake lights. If it's not working, then no brake lights.
The clutch switch is in the Left Hand Control Module while the RHCM has a similar switch for the front brake lever. AFAIK they are completely independent of each other.
I was experiencing my bike not starting in gear intermittently and it seemed to be getting worse over time. While at the dealership for another issue, I mentioned it to the service manager. He asked who did the 5K service on the bike. I told him I did it myself. He told me to make sure I lubed the neutral plunger switch with Harley Lube at every service. I had lubed the clutch lever but not the plunger switch. When I got home, I squeezed the clutch lever and gave the neutral switch a good shot of lube. That was 2 weeks ago and the bike has started in gear every time since.
I plan on lubing the switch tonight.. from the diagram on page 3 of this thread it looks like the plunger is inside the housing. Did you take apart the housing to lube it?
Also, not sure what "Harley Lube" is other than some over priced wd 40

Yeah, that post about the brake lights was a total brain-fart on my part.
What I should have said is that that switch also turns off the cruise control when the clutch lever is pulled.
Luckily for me, at my age I can just call it a "Senior Moment", instead of feeling like an idiot!

I was able to lube the plunger switch by squeezing the clutch lever. I don't know what type of oil the Harley lube is? Since lubing the switch my bike has started in gear every time.

Sorry this is late but maybe it will help. When you squeeze the clutch lever, you can see the plunger switch. See the attached video. We rode again today and it continues to operate properly.
