true dat...the fix is the new housing with a stiffer spring in the piston to keep it from sticking and the new lever config to compliment it...which is my understanding of what changes were made..just suffice it to say they upgraded the parts and it resolved the problem
It would be interesting to know when the upgraded parts started being used on the production line.
My Street Glide is a June '18 build so I'm hoping it has the new parts.

Look at the switch piston. Pretty sure if black it's the old one. If white it will be the new one. And if it already has the new switch assembly, good chance you have the new lever. Little divot on the bottom side of the lever confirms new lever....
If the switch wont stall in front of the dealer will they refuse to fix it? This seems as bad as a leaking clutch!!
i was told the same thing , then they replaced it but they used the 2 wheel switch and my switch pack didnt have a reverse button so to repair my trike they swapped it out with a switch pack from a 2018 trike from the sales floor

The acid test for the clutch switch is put the bike in gear pull the clutch in and hit the start button. If it starts no issue. If it does not start there's your sign. All the other issues seem to crop up when the no start in gear issue starts happening. There have also been some cruise control issues also. Like,,, it just stops working.
Well I hope no one gets hurt. I can find neutral pretty fast but not as fast as just pulling in the clutch in gear and hit the start button. Seems like this Should be a Safety recall after all it is called a " clutch safety switch"
I think it's just the trikes that require the brake.
Here's one for the notebook. I just started having this issue on my 2014 FLHTK with not being able to start the bike in gear with the clutch lever pulled in. Now I never attempt this when the bike is cold and I'm getting ready to ride. I have on occasion started my bike under certain circumstances, ie I stalled it at a light. The other day this happened and I couldn't start the bike until I put it into neutral, even with the clutch lever pulled in. It wasn't until I read this post about Trikes having to apply the brake also. Well my bike was recently converted to a trike by Lehman and it also exhibits the same requirement as Harley's Tri-Glide. Go figure. Thanks for every ones input.
don't let dealers blow smoke here. there is a service bulletin a yr old about replacing the entire left housing, which is what my dealer did on my M8 after 4 failures. AND it ain't just that it won't start in gear, which is dangerous enough. It loped, reached, and revved up and down intermittently for me. borderline dangerous. If the dealer gives u any BS, play the highway safety card. do they want a call to the NTSB? my dealer(Tampa Harley) was more than great in replacing parts until the problem was fixed. Harley also has a consumer support line if the local dealer dodges responsibility.............good luck.
