Pulled the trigger on a 2017 flhtk. Great bike handles well, plenty of power no engine heat to annoy the rider, the bike is bone stock with the exception of a klockworkz 11.5 windshield. Have heard all the oil problem stories in fact my buddy bought one the day I did and had his motor rebuilt at 3,000 miles. I love the bike, the only problem is that the bike will not keep a battery charged past one month. The bike is ridden regularly and kept on a battery tender plus when not in use. At the third battery the dealer did a diagnostic and replaced the regulator, good for a month, called the dealer made a appt. and when they tried to start the bike to bring it in it was dead as a door nail after riding it for an hour to the dealer. I have had a loaner going on two weeks, it sounds like they are stumped telling me the diagnostic is showing no faults but they are still working on it. will place another post when they get the bike back to me or come out with ant information. This is my fifth new HD and my only problem ever. Also the guage cluster has droplets inside the glass, I have been through three sets, called Harley and they are aware of the problem and are working on it with a new compound of anti fogging coating for the inside. This post is FYI
I don't follow the M8 forum, so I'm unaware of the problems that people are having with the 17s. Bummer! My buddy has a 17 FLHTK and, to date, he hasn't had any issues. I laugh at the runny gauges fix.
Could be a problem with the Stator, my '09 FLHT did something similar to what yours is doing, dealer couldn't find anything wrong but they did replace the regulator, after several more times of the problem happening off of a hunch I replaced the Stator, problem solved.
Not saying this is your problem, but it couldn't hurt to have them look at or replace the stator.

Really sucks to hear that, seems the dealer could figure that one out, by doing some electrical test, sitting , and while riding for charging. ect, Only other thing may be your tender is malfunctioning, over charge ? good luck, keep us posted

Just had the gauge cluster replaced under ESP for the same reason, cost me the $50 deductible. I noticed the new speedo read 130 MPH, the original went up to 120 MPH. They match perfectly so I told them to leave it, everything else works fine...hope the drip problem is solved.
