Default Getting dyno-tuned

So I'm gonna ride my bike several hours North to Colonial Heights, VA and let Dyno Dave at Colonial HD tune my bike. I currently have the Stage 1 loaded but am curious to see if there's more to be had by letting an experience HD tuner put it through its paces on the dyno. I've had a bike tuned by Dave before and he knows his stuff. Before I shell out any dough I'm just gonna ask him if he thinks it's worth it. He doesn't BS so he'll tell me if it's not. Either way, I'm gonna be up there visiting a friend so it won't be a wasted trip if he says no.

Dyno tuning a "Stage 1" bike is a good way to waste your money. Is spending $$$ for 2 or 3 more horsepower/torque really worth it?

I did exactly what SWT is doing and absolutely worth a few hundred bucks..there's more to a good tune than just a couple numbers on a piece of paper..overall improvement in drivability alone was worth it to me and the extra power gains were noticeable and useful. nice knowing it is more accurate than the canned map...people spend $300 left and right without blinking an eye replacing perfectly good working parts they already paid for just to have the replacement parts be shinier...all a matter of perspective..anxious to hear your feedback SWT

How do you tune a bike w no tuner? I understand the SE tuner has no place to go ..

I don't think the M8 is ready for dyno runs yet. Several can attest to that.

I couldn't care less about numbers on a sheet. If he tries to give me a print out I won't take it. It's like MJ said, I'm more concerned about drive ability and fine tuning things. The SE tuner does have a smart tune feature that can be used while on the dyno. If there a part of the RPM band that has any rough spots, Dave should be able to smooth them out.

SW...please let us know how your experience is and take the sheet so you can post it here for the rest of us. You said Stage1, I assume you have the Street Tuner. Did you run any auto tunes prior to your dyno appointment?

Dude, do it!! I did and it was well worth the money. I could have paid for a canned map...and we know that each bike is different or I could dyno and get it dialed in. It was so worth the money and I could care less about "numbers" ....although my torque did jump...and by more than 1 or 2 as others are implying. I'll have to find my sheet to see the exact numbers. HP didn't move by alot, but my torque did and that's what I wanted. And I have a stage 1 too. My last bike had a stage 1 with a great map in a PCV I got from fuel moto---it ran great. But when I had it dyno'd......it was SUPER...even though the numbers didn't jump by alot, it was placement of power, etc. I don't want some canned download that worked on someone else's bike ... *** Harley Davidson in Asheboro, NC did a great job personalizing my tune. Yes, aftermarket headers would serve the numbers better -----but I'm fine with stock until all of this mess gets ironed out with warranties. I travel too much to chance repairs at a dealer elsewhere
