I've got 16,000 km on my 2017 Road King. I've had absolutely no problems and it has to be the nicest bike I've ever ridden. Twist the throttle and hang on. Go out and enjoy yours..
Best ever HD power plant for me by far and it's stock as a rock , for now ,it also handles ,rides and stops better than any HD before it as well.
Just needs a set of slipons maybe.
My 2017 Limited with the M8, cylinder wall came apart and pieces down in the engine. Dealer is waiting to see if Corporate will let me have a new engine or opt to rebuild. I will be some kind of pissed if they don't replace the engine on my new bike. I have 6000 miles on it and always service by dealer. Bad enough I will be out of business for weeks getting this resolved.
Almost 5k on mine. I had was a defect on the rear lower pushrod cover that was leaking oil out of it. Took almost 2 weeks for the replacement part to come in. I was pretty pissed that I had a leak at 700 miles.
It appears that my motor is burning oil. In 3k miles I dropped about a third of a quart on the dipstick. Talked to the Service Manager about it and he told me that that is within limits. I know that even new motors use oil but a third of a quart in 3k miles seems high to me.

not abnormal for these engines..new low tension piston rings might be a contributing factor to consumption, and it is at its worst on hot days pushing it hard...both wife and I and a friend's use oil between OCI's

Mine hasn't used a drop of oil and I push it a bit.
I ran it in hard though I reckon that's the secret .
My dealer just told me Milwakee is sending them a new engine, sump, and oil cooler to install on my bike. Corporate had the dealer send many pictures of the damage to ensure it wasn't because of modifications. Than goodness I left it bone stock. The sump and oil cooler deal lead me to believe they determined there was an oil delivery problem that contributed to the failure.

The fact that they are sending a pan and cooler tell me that the motor blew up and the don't want any left over debris getting back into the new motor. It's common to replace both when a motor starts eating itself up..
My dealer is a multiline dealer. They are a Polaris ATV and three wheel dealer. They say Polaris is a complete nightmare.
I get this is an M8 HD forum, but I have both HD and Indian. Both are great American motorcycle brands and I like being about to go between them. My sportster is one of the best bikes I have ever owned, and my scout is right there with it. I was concerned by the early M8 rumblings, but everything lately from guys I know is that this is an absolutely fantastic engine. I plan to get one once I find a good used one (I need to trade a metric)
