Default Worth it?

Is the M8 107-114 stage IV kit worth the investment? AND is it a true bolt on kit ('do it yourself' for a good weekend mechanic)? I'm hearing a lot of different numbers from as little as 3% - 52% increase...

That's a matter of opinion. For me it's not worth it. I don't need that extra power and couldn't justify the additional cost. The 107 has all the power I'll ever need.

I guess it would be cool to have the extra umph, but given the expense, I am totally happy with my stage II, I just don't need any more.

IMO, unless you really feel the stock motor is anemic it isn't worth the $ and time.

stock 107 is more than enough.. I went ahead and did a stage II torque cam upgrade and it got slightly better performance and much better sound (lopey) so I kept it there. For me it was perfect. Really no need to go further. Rode my bike up to Laconia and test rode a few demos from Harley and Indian to compare.. Rode the RGS stock 107 and boy did it move. Wasn't much slower than my stage II. I probably could have saved that money. Then jumped on the Indian Chieftain 111ci. Felt anemic compared to the 107. No low end torque. Was not impressed at all. Then back on a Harley Street Glide CVO w/114. Much stronger but not by much. Not the power or oomph I was expecting. Sound sucked too. That bike also needs headers and mufflers. So I guess I would say leave it as is or do a stage II and call it a day.

It's a boat anchor touring bike, if you are willing to spend 5k because you need a little more power then in my opinion you should have bought a different bike. For the intended purpose of the touring line I feel the 107 is more than adequate. Mine is full stage one but I won't spend any money going further, I've always felt once that factory seal is broken on the motor it's just not the same after. I would personally spend the extra cash on comfort and appearance goodies but thats just me.

I'm in that boat. I always do a "Stage 1" mod to any bike I buy, just to get the motor to it's true potential sans the EPA reg's and restrictions manufacturers are forced to do.

Having a Vic 106 with Stage 1 (both bikes with proper ECU tunes to go with), the 107 is a sweet pulling motor to the point I choose it more so than not to ride. Torque off idle on the 107 is just perfect for me. Road the 107 to work yesterday. Rode the Vic today. 30 mile drive, freeway speeds and it is night and day noticeable the difference in these 2 motors.

I'll wait till the motor were to need a rebuild, then I would go with a Fuel Moto 117 or 120 build. At that point might as well go for the biggest bang for the buck. HD hop up parts are good, but again, they are designed to stay within guidelines and NOT get the most from a specific configuration. Their cams always leave alot on the table.

To me it would not be worth it. My '17 RGS has all I need in a bagger.

If I want to go fast, raise hell and make a lot of exhaust music in the process, I hop on my LV equipped 2012 air/oil cooled 396 lb, 100hp Ducati Monster 1100EVO, which far surpasses my threshold of fear anyway.

All I did was add some V&H slip ons for a better sound. That's all I intend to do. The stock M8 has all the power I'll ever need. It out performs my "07 RK with a stage II hands down.

Most of what's been posted on here about the stage 4 has been mixed, good and bad. I'm guessing if your considering doing a stage 4, you like power. I've seen anywhere from 110-120 tq with 110+/- hp posted on here. I would ask the dealer your buying the kit from if they have installed any and can show you a dyno sheet. Personally, I think the kit is a good value for the dollar if you can get 15-20% off. If you think those numbers will satisfy you, who cares what everyone else thinks. BUT, if you think you might want more, go aftermarket. I have the stage 3 producing 116 tq and 100 hp with the 447 cam and want to be in the 120's. It pulls decent, but not hard. My next upgrade will be an aftermarket cam.
