How anyone can say theirs does or does not without even hearing the noise is beyond me.
When your unsure of a noise you really need to let someone that knows the difference listen to it.
I am very sure the noise happens on cold starts. I'll make a video.

My communication skills must really suck. My point was not that you were or were not hearing a noise, im sure you are, engines are a giant noise.
My point is how can someone tell you its normal or not when they have not heard it, and how does another person tell you that their bike makes that same noise or not when they have not heard it.
Holly cow batman! Im a mechanic by trade, someone calls me up saying they hear a noise and wants to know if its normal, I say how the hell do I know, I have not heard it.

Yes, that's exactely what I'm trying to figure out. Too bad my bike is the only M8 here in my city. I'm not freaking out though, at 1k service I ask the dealer about it.
Harley has these thing's down to .0001ths of an inch. When it's cold, it's a little noisy. But who runs them cold. If it sound's fine at running temperature, don't let it trouble you. After all, they are not a Honda.
Mine does that as well. It scared me for a while but it only does it for about a min after the first start of the day when the engine is cold.
Miy M8 sounds like a Clackety clack 2000 for the first 4 seconds. Then after the lifters pump up it turns into the knock o matic 3000 until the oil makes its way to the rod bearings. At this point the knock begins to fade away in 8-10 seconds. 10k service tomorrow. 1 quart added at 9k.
As long as you see no smoke and engine is performing well pulls strong don't worry about start up noise. Same goes if you have to add a little engine oil now and again.
