Would I also get all of the Points of interests, e.g., hotels, their locations and phone numbers like I do with an onboard nav system? Or would I just get the maps?
I have not downloaded any areas as yet, but works up to the point just before downloading...you can get up to 2 or 3 states worth of map data with under 1G of stored data, so not too much storage taken up. I would assume you would get everything, but I could be wrong...I'm sure Keithhu can answer, looks like he's used this function...

Yes, everything.
Also note that before you go off line, if you begin navigating while you have a connection, Google Maps will automatically download the data you need to get you to your destination, even if you lose your data connection along the way.

Thanks for this.. Good to know. I just: downloaded, put my phone in airplane mode, then looked up some things I knew were in the area (and that I would not have had in any cache).. it works.
There are still several other reasons why I want updated maps on my 2017 BOOM GTS, but that is a good thing to know!

There in theory would be good reasons to have an updated head unit, but the maps are awful enough as it is. Paying $150 for updated awfulness is not something I'm willing to do.

You would have no idea what they actually updated, if anything...

I have considered upgrading to a Boom GTS, or even trading-in my 70k mile, 2017 bike for a "22 (it seems silly to spend a lot of money to upgrade a higher mileage bike).. But both options seem excessive when all I really want are current maps.
Probably, over 75% of my riding is done using routes planned on my desktop computer and loaded via the USB, I have started to use Waze or Google maps when I just want to get from A-to-B and I'm concerned about traffic.

IMO only way to get accurate maps is to use Google Maps or Waze as both are updated frequently...updating the Boom GTS and you don't know what you are getting for whatever $$ are spent...
