1) how do I check if the map I have is the most current one?
2) There is a charge for maps? I go to https://harley-davidson.naviextras.com/shop/portal, choose Harley Davidson Premium NA, which I presume is correct because the CVO option clearly is not. And my bike being an Ultra, thus I thought premium. Once registered, I click on "free updates", but the only choice is for $149 to buy a map for NA.
If I'm going to be charged for map updates, I'm going to be pissed.
Actually, page 183 in the Boom manual for instructions on checking to see if you need a new map. but I'm gonna be a pissy bastard if I have to pay $ for the updates.
Unfortunately they are only free if you bought a CVO, they get the free updates. Everyone else pays for a upgrade which is 2 yrs old. Lot of threads about this and the upgrade gives you the same lame problems.
Hence I never paid for the upgrade
I don't know why you can't see it but CVO is available. The last I knew, a CVO cycle had 3 map updates which had to be used within 5 years. I do not have a CVO but I believe there is a code you need to enter.
I don't have my cycle available but go to the main screen and look for the system information option. I believe it is in "setup" but you will have to do some drilling down to get to the proper screen
I recorded my system info with a USB stick inserted on the bike per the instructions in the manual.
Inserted the stick into my PC, ran Naviupdates utility, its said I have important updates and downloaded stuff to the stick.
Went back to the bike, inserted the stick, turned the bike on, went to settings, it displayed a screen saying "Authenticating...." for a while, then an error message popped up saying something like "NoNavUpdate".
......The Garmin in my drawer gets free lifetime updates.
I guess the choice is to rarely, if ever, update, live with the old map or start using the Garmin.
Really? I just pulled my Garmin Nuvi outta the drawer and blew the dust off it. Currently has a map base of 2009. Its $50 to update the map. Unless you bought the lifetime map update service at a higher cost. either way, I'm not seeing anything free from Garmin
...I guess the choice is to rarely, if ever, update, live with the old map or start using the Garmin.
