That's a bs answer. It has a nav on it and it will be used as such. It also works in areas where there is little to no cell coverage.

A phone is great for people like you who don't wander far from home. But my preference is to use the bike as designed in this case.

yep, isnt it a shame that if you update your google maps on your cell phone, its free and very friggin good. Ive discovered, nothing is cheap when it comes to Harley and its always more that $100 dollars........

Mine's a Zumo 665, comes with lifetime maps.

I'm from Canada, we don't have unlimited data plans. Roaming charges/plans are crazy expensive.

You don't need constant data for map coverage, that's so 2012..You can now pre-download your route etc.

What the manufacturers need to do is get Carplay and Android Auto working. Don't even put a GPS system on the bike, just give us the screen real estate to display maps from our phones that are almost always up to date. I'd like to think the manufacturers will eventually figure that's the way of things.

yep, what he said.... thats a great option. Check this out, I did it by accident one day. Wife and I were out for a ride, I got lost in western michigan. She said, bike has navigation, punch in the address and lets go home. I told her I didnt know how to use it yet, bike was 1 week old, shame on me. I looked up the point on my Iphone using google maps, hit go and threw the phone in the tourpack. Pulled up my map on navi screen and followed the turn by turn from my phone playing over the blue tooth on my speakers. Since then, I sat down with the manual and set up the navigation system on my bike. I may be in the minority, I like it. I think it works just fine.

Ah, direct insults. You must be one of those "real bikers" I read so much about. For the record, I've had my bike less than two years, and I'm approaching 38,000 miles. I will be over 40,000 by the end of next month. This year I did a complete circle around the entire continental United States, 7,000 miles in six weeks. Bite me.

And there you have it. Anytime I know I will be needing GPS, but will be out of cell range, I can easily, intuitively, and simply, plan out my trip in Google Maps, and then click that little button that says: "Save to phone". Then it's right there in my GPS, just like the Harley Infotainment system, except it's current, accurate, and free to keep it that way.

2) There is a charge for maps? I go to https://harley-davidson.naviextras.com/shop/portal, choose Harley Davidson Premium NA, which I presume is correct because the CVO option clearly is not. And my bike being an Ultra, thus I thought premium. Once registered, I click on "free updates", but the only choice is for $149 to buy a map for NA.

If I'm going to be charged for map updates, I'm going to be pissed.
I'm curious what map version you have. My M8 has the NA 2017 database. Yours should too??

To check, go to the set-up button on the home screen. Then scroll down the list using the down button on the right side of the screen. You should see system. If memory serves me right here at work today. Then choose software I believe. This should bring up the current version.
